COURSE DESCRIPTION

Constructs like emotional intelligence, emotional self-regulation, emotional well-being and emotional social learning are being bandied about like never before. Emotion, long dismissed as a nuisance factor, is now confirmed to be at the core of development and well-being.

What are the implications for raising children? Should we be discouraging 'negative emotions' and encouraging our children to calm down? Why are our children so “full” of emotion? How can we help them when life gets difficult?

This course will help adults working closely with children and especially challenging students to understand the role of emotion in their development and to learn ways of interacting with the children in their care that promote healthy and optimal development.
